What holds you back from community?

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.

Psalm 51:16-17 (NIV)

Why do we come together to worship on Sunday mornings? To worship? To fellowship? For community? For prayer? There are so many things that we are called together weekly to, and to say that any one is of greatest importance misses the complexity of the character and design of our God. I would like to talk a bit about one of the possibly overlooked reasons.

The greatest sacrifice to God is not found in the things we give or the things we do, rather it is found in giving up ourselves to make Him Lord on the throne of our hearts. I wonder if part of the reason that the church was designed to meet weekly is because we need that constant reminder in

community to die to ourselves.

We know that in our baptism we die to our old self and find new life in Christ (Romans 6:1-4), but we are also called to live as living sacrifices to God (Romans 12:1). God knows us and knows we need community to renew our minds (12:2) back to Him.

What holds you back from community? We’d love to have you join us as we build one another up in unity toward Jesus Christ.
