Celebrate Easter...Weekly!

Have you ever considered that we, as a church, celebrate Easter weekly? I know...there aren’t all the bunnies and eggs and pretty things. But there is actually a reason for the day of the week we choose to come together as a body of believers.

We meet on the first day of the week, and have since the beginning of the church. Check out Acts 20:7…”On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.”

Why we meet is important though. It’s not because of the sermon (though that is something we do). It is not because of offering time (though we give back at that time). It is not even because of communion (which seems to have been originally instituted on a Thursday, at least according to tradition). We meet on Sunday because of the most important thing that Jesus did during His earthly ministry. On the third day (the first being Friday) Jesus rose. He conquered death. He defeated all the powers of the darkness of the grave. He was given the name that is higher than every name. We meet...we get to meet on the third day every week to remember that Jesus rose.

The core of our message should always be the hope of the Gospel. May it ever be woven into the very fabric of what we do, even the day we choose to gather for worship.
