Our Identity In Christ

We recently finished our Messy Grace series and Darryl ended by talking about knowing our identity, that is our identity in Christ. Losing site of that is one of the quickest ways for your worship life to dry up.

There are so many things battling for our attention all the time that this can happen easily. We get caught up in what we do, the hobby we have, that political positions we’re passionate about and suddenly the core of our identity is wrapped up in these things. While having passion for these things is not bad in and of itself, sharing the throne of your heart is not something that God cares to do.

This aspect of God is made clear especially throughout the Old testament. Exodus 34:14 says “…the Lord is jealous for his reputation, you are never to bow down to another god. He is a jealous God” (CSB). Jesus says “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6 CSB).

Two things will best prepare your heart for worship: (1) understanding who God is and (2) understanding your place in light of Him. How do you prepare to come to the throne?
