Where do you search for hope?

July 26, 2017

It seems like a really simple and obvious question, but lets think about it for a moment.  Some of us look for hope in our country and its leaders; a few of us find hope and security in our work; some of us look for hope in family.  The problem is that many of these things can fail us.  Our country and leaders can be led astray; jobs can vanish quickly; families are a part of who we are, but they are made up of flawed people that can disappoint.  So why do we look to these for hope?

We are beings created to hope.  It is something God planted in each of us.  But if we can’t find real hope in anything around us, in what can we find hope?

Paul gives this answer to the Thessalonian church—one in desperate need of hope. “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word” (2 Thess 2:16-17).

When our hope is in the eternal and unchanging person of Christ Jesus, there is nothing on earth that can shake us.  He cannot fail us, he cannot lead us astray.  His promise is for something greater than all this life has to offer.  So let us choose to hold fast to Him who is the author and perfecter of all things.  He will never fail us.  Let us continue in daily lives of worship that are committed to seeking Him above all things.
