Worship as the Body (part 2)

March 10, 2017

Last time we looked into the four major pillars of the early church’s worship together as a body.  “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (NIV).  We looked for a bit at the Apostles’ teaching, next we will see...

Fellowship:

How many of us consider times of fellowship to be worship?  I mean, fellowship is what we do when we enjoy one another’s company, particularly around some food (Jack’s Donuts?), and laugh and share and carry on.  Right?

Well the specific term used here is koinonia which has much stronger implications of unity and sharing than just laughing together between services over refreshments (did I say Jack’s Donuts?).  Koinonia is sharing all of life.  It’s crying together in the hospital over a bad prognosis.  It’s selling what you have to share with your brother and sister in need.  It’s the moments you share with the family that you love.

We were created to be in relationship, not just superficial relationships but true connections.  When we fulfill that purpose, God is glorified.  So when we come together as a body, lets fellowship.  Yeah, the donuts are great, but lets share moments as well as donuts.  Let’s be a family so that God is glorified.
